John Singleton's ex-wife, Ghanaian actress Akosua Busia, is suing him for refusal to pay their daughter's tuition. According to Bossip the veteran film director is being sued by Busia, who is best known for playing 'Nettie' in The Color Purple, for more than a quarter million dollars. Court documents filed by the actress claim Singleton promised to pay the difference in their daughter's tuition after she left California and moved back to her native Ghana.
Akousa, who is the daughter of the ex-prime minister of the Republic of Ghana and a princess of the royal family of Wenchi, says she has gone into debt and had to sell personal items to keep their daughter in exclusive private boarding schools in Ghana, England and Michigan.
She is seeking $204,000 for twelve years of back tuition, $65,000 for continuing education, and $30,000 in legal fees. In his response to the filing, Singleton claims he never agreed to pay more than the $4,000 a month he was order to pay for child support. He also notes that he makes roughly $14,000 a month with $24,000 a month in expenses. Singleton and Busia married in October 1996 and divorced in June 1997, approximately two months after their daughter was born.
