Kimberly Elise, Kristen Ariza Added To HBO’s Confirmation Cast
According to Blackfilm.com, HBO has addedKimberly Elise, Kristen Ariza & Malcolm Gets to its upcoming film “Confirmation.” The film will detail the explosive 1991Clarence Thomas-Anita HillSupreme Court nomination hearings, which brought the country to a standstill and forever changed the way people think about sexual harassment, victims’ rights and modern-day race relations.Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Treme)is set to play JudgeClarence Thomas, while Kerry Washingtonplays Anita Hill.
Elise will play Sonia Jarvis, Anita’s college roommate and a D.C. lawyer. Ariza plays Judy Smith, the White House press liaison. Gets plays Arlen Specter, the Pennsylvania senator who played a leading role in the Thomas hearings as a Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Dope’s Rick Famuyiwa will direct the TV movie, which has already production.
Academy Award nominated writer Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich) will pen the script and executive produce the drama, which is being produced by Groundswell Productions in association with ABC Signature Studios. Groundswell CEO Michael London (ABC’s upcoming soap Astronaut Wives Club) and production president Janice Williams will executive produce alongside Grant and star Washington.
Also featured in the film are Jeffrey Wright, Jennifer Hudson, Greg Kinnear, and Alison Wright.
Elise is currently on VH1 series, Hit The Floor and will be next be seen in Famuyiwa’s Dope, which opens on June 19. Ariza starred on British television series “The Tomorrow People” before landing episodic TV roles on various programs.
