ICYMI: Studio Q Weekly Radio Show Featuring Guest Jamaal D. Pittman (Got 2B Real)

In this episode of Studio Q Radio, we decided to make it be all about Whitney.  Every once in awhile we just have to celebrate our favorite vocalist and add love to her legacy.  Our first Studio Q Radio guest was Jamaal D. Pittman who voiced Whitney Houston on the popular YouTube show 'Got 2B Real.'  When I say Jamaal sounds just like Whitney it is an understatement.  He says, even Bobbi Kristina reached out to him.  If that's not confirmation then I don't know what is.  Bobbi Kristina knows her mother better than anyone.

Listen to our fun interview with Jamaal as we talk about our eternal love for Whitney Houston.  If you love Whitney like we do, this show is a must-hear.

Nicole Richie Gets Series Order For ‘#CandidlyNicole’ At VH1

From Twitter, to the Web to TV.  That is the route Nicole Richie has taken with #CandidlyNicole, which, in a competitive situation, has been given a straight-to-series order by VH1 for eight episodes to premiere July 17 reports Deadline.  Additionally, the network has signed a first look/development deal with Richie’s Honey Child Prods.  Reality series #CandidlyNicole, produced by Telepictures and World of Wonder, is based on Richie’s popular AOL online series of the same name, which in turn was based on Richie’s irreverent Twitter feed.  “Nicole’s sharp, acerbic sense of humor and broad audience appeal make #CandidlyNicole a perfect fit for the VH1 brand,” said Susan Levison, VH1’s EVP Original Programming and Development. “Viewers will enjoy her unique point of view and earnest look at pop culture as well as her fearless exploration of anything and everything taboo.”

#CandidlyNicole marks Richie’s first reality starring vehicle since Fox’s The Simple Life. According to VH1, it will “detail her daily adventures and give insight into her decisions on style, relationships, her work life and her journey to adulthood.” TV personality, fashion maven and author Richie, who was a mentor on NBC’s Fashion Star, executive produces alongside Michael Baum and Carrie Franklin.

Sidebar: I love her sense of humor, at least what I can remember of it when she was on Simple Life. Congrats to her for showing how you can go from Twitter to TV.  Yeah, that's the trend I want to follow.

'Gone With the Wind' Prequel to Focus on Mammy

According to Today.com, Simon &Schuster imprint Atria Books announced Thursday that it will publish Donald McCaig's Ruth's Journey in October.  The story, a prequel to Margaret Mitchell's classic 1936 novel, will follow the life of Mammy from her arrival in Georgia in the early 19th century.   In 1939, Mammy was brought to life onscreen by Hattie McDaniel, who became the first African American to win an Academy Award for her role.  The novel that was often criticized for its one-dimensional portrayals of Blacks will go deeper into the story of one of its main characters.

Peter Borland, editorial director of Atria commented on the significance of the book: "What's really remarkable about what Donald has done is that it's a book that respects and honors its source material, but it also provides a necessary correction to what is one of the more troubling aspects of the book, which is how the black characters are portrayed."

'The Real' Gears Up for Fall Premiere

According to Essence, Daytime television is set to get a dose of The Real this fall, as the official premiere date of the new talk show is set for September 15.   After a hugely successful test run this past summer, FOX has picked up the one-hour daily show for a national broadcast. Ken Werner, President of Warner Bros. Sidebar: This show is better than all the talk shows on the air right now. Cannot wait til it premieres.

Keke Palmer in Drew Barrymore's Horror Film 'Animal' [VIDEO]

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fear lives in the dark: The blood-pumping first trailer for Drew Barrymore's horror film, Animal, has hit the web.  Animal, which airs later this year on NBCUniversal-owned Chiller after a limited theatrical and VOD run, follows a group of close-knit friends who find themselves stranded in unfamiliar territory, pursued by a blood-thirsty predator. Holed up in isolated cabin, tensions mount as secrets are revealed. As the body count rises, the group puts their differences aside and fights for survival.  In the minute-long teaser exclusive to four friends race through the woods in the dead of night, being chased by said blood-thirsty predator. There's no real indication of what's going on, except for exasperated yells of "Keep going!" -- that enough gives you the sense that they are in grave danger. The predator that's hunting them remains unseen. Instead you hear the monster in the opening seconds and in the closing moments, when it takes one of the four as its latest victim (hello, Eve!).

Keke Palmer, Amaury Nolasco, Parker Young, Joey Lauren Adams, Elizabeth Gillies, Paul IaconoThorsten Kaye and Jeremy Sumpter also star.  Barrymore is an executive producer alongside Flower Films' Nancy Juvonen, and producers Chris Miller, Ember Truesdell, Kelly Smith and Thommy Hutson. Hutson and Catherine Trillo penned the script and is directed by Brett Simmons. Gary J. Tunnicliffe created the creature effects.

Sidebar: Just when I get excited that Keke Palmer is in a Drew Barrymore film I watch the trailer and she is the first one to get grabbed by the monster they are running from! Girl Bye. Typical.

Mike Epps To Co-Star In Starz Series ‘Survivor’s Remorse’& Recur On BET’s ‘Being Mary Jane’

According to Deadline, Mike Epps is adding a seasoned presence to Starz’s scripted comedy series Survivor’s Remorse, joining a cast of mostly 20-something up-and-comers as a regular. Additionally, Epps has booked a recurring role on the second season of the BET drama Being Mary Jane. Survivor’s Remorse, executive produced by NBA star LeBron James and Mike O’Malley, is set in the world of professional basketball.  It follows Cam Calloway (Jessie T. Usher), a basketball phenom in his early 20s who is thrust into the limelight after signing a multimillion-dollar contract with a pro team.  Cam, along with his cousin and confidant Reggie Vaughn (RonReaco Lee), move to Georgia to start Cam’s journey to success. Epps plays Cam’s uncle Julius, who moves from the Dorchester projects to an Atlanta mansion with his family after Cam gets a big pro contract. Although Uncle Julius loves the perks of success, he still tries to keep the family on point with his guidance and wisdom. On Being Mary Jane, Epps will play Chris Warren, husband and a father who is in a great marriage, something Mary Jane (Gabrielle Union) covets. Epps, is currently filming the feature Term Life with Vince Vaughn.

Sidebar: Survivor's Remorse seems interesting, but I don't have Starz! Don't you hate when a good series comes on a network that you don't have. I don't have Showtime either but every Sunday Showtime let's me watch House of Lies for free. Maybe Starz will do the same. Congrats Mike.

Mase Accused of Using The Church to Advance Rap Agenda

According to TMZ, worshipers of the El Elyon International Church believe that the former Bad Boy Records rapper, born Mason Betha, is a “fake” that has used “the holiness of the church to advance his very unholy rap agenda.” Members add that they believe Betha is leading a double life “spending as much time in the studio with hardcore rappers” as he does in the church. Most recently, he was featured on Remo The Hitmaker’s single "Tricky Situation," that finds a man in a mental tug of war on if he should mess around with a woman who has a man.  Interesting…But this isn’t the first time he has raised eyebrows among his flock. Betha has reportedly made a fortune off his “Born to succeed" marriage focused ministry. So when news surfaced that he had secretly filed for divorce from his wife, Twyla, the church called foul, accusing him of being a hypocrite on the pulpit.  He has since withdrawn his divorce papers, and they have vowed to work things out

A 3rd 'Barbershop' Movie Is In Development

Deadline says that Ice Cube is negotiating a mid-seven-figure payday with MGM to reprise his role in what will be Barbershop 3, and the project is out to writers.  MG also hopes to snag Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah as well for the threequel.  Cube will produce with production partner Matt Alvarez, Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr who produced the first 2 films.  Collectively, both movies grossed $140 million domestically on comparitively low budgets, and were financial successes for the studio.  Ice Cube is certainly keeping himself busy, with a sequel to the box office smash Ride Along greenlit, and the production of Straight Outta Compton, the F. Gary Gray-directed bio of the rap group that launched Ice's career, NWA.

Robin Roberts to be First 'Dancing With the Stars' Celebrity Guest Judge

According to THR, Robin Roberts is set to become the first celebrity guest judge on Dancing With the Stars.  The GMA host will join the ABC reality show next Monday, it was announced on Tuesday's edition of the ABC morning show.  "I am nervous...but you got to step outside of your comfort zone," Roberts said on Tuesday's GMA. "I think I am going to take the perspective of those who normally watch at home."  Roberts is the first of many celebrity guest judges, including Julianne Hough, Ricky Martin and LMFAO's Redfoo

Adding a guest judge is just one of many changes DWTS has made in its 18th season, which included replacing longtime co-host Brooke Burke with Erin Andrews.  In an effort to stem ratings declines, producers have overhauled the show with more current music and increased audience participation.  The show replaced longtime bandleader Harold Wheeler with Ray Chew, and his new, smaller band will be more focused on current hits.  Viewers are also able to vote via Twitter to change celebrity and professional dance pairings, a switch that will be unveiled on the April 7 edition of the show.

Naomi Campbell Unimpressed By Kanye and Kim Vogue Cover

Supermodel Naomi Campbell expressed her opinion with that polite shade we love--on an Australian TV program called "The Morning Show" reports TheYBF.  When asked how she felt about it all, given that she's covered VOGUE numerous times in her almost 30-year career, she said:  "I do not want to comment." But she did continue saying,  "I'm a fashion model and I've been working for 28 years.  When you get a VOGUE cover, it's a build in your career.  It's a stepping stone to achieve that.

I'm a fashion model, so, what more can I say."  When asked, "So you think Kim and Kanye haven't earned the right to be on the cover?"  Naomi offered up an answer like only she can:  "Those are your words, I'm being politically correct.  That's Anna's choice to put them on the cover of her magazine, who's to question it."

Sidebar: I like Kim Kardashian and Kanye well enough but I agree with Naomi's silent politically correct but what we know what she meant opinion. I also feel that Kim needed Kanye to be on the cover. Between the both of them they will accomplish the goal, which at the end of the day is to sell magazines.  Anna Wintour would not have to put out a statement defending her choice of them being on the cover if nobody cared and it were not a controversial choice.

Anita Baker ADDRESSES Arrest Warrant & Avoids Going To Jail

According to TMZ a Detroit judge withdrew a warrant, which would have sent Anita to jail, after her lawyer pleaded on her behalf that she was never served legal documents regarding the lawsuit.  Apparently, a house painter filed a lawsuit against the singer after he claimed she did not pay him for the work he had done. Anita allegedly didn’t pay him because his work didn’t meet her expectations, so he sued.  The Grammy Award winning singer missed the first court hearing for the lawsuit, which resulted in a default judgment in the painter’s favor. A second hearing was scheduled in which Anita was a no-show and an arrest warrant was issued.  The "Caught Up In The Rapture" singer took to her Twitter to address the lawsuit drama tweeting:
As of 11am this morning. The Fraudulently Obtained Warrant??? ... is Gone. Dismissed. sO Many. Held me sO Close..."SO Grateful :)" ab
Grateful to Judiciary &Law Enforcement, who waited for "The Facts" before proceeding.
Anita’s lawyer will fight for her in court next month in an attempt to reverse the default judgment based on the fact that Anita never received the lawsuit.

Sidebar: Glad she resolved that.

Trailblazer Dorothy Irene Height earns a Google Doodle

America's history of civil rights recognizes many giants: Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks – the list goes on. But one titan often gets left off the list.  Dorothy Irene Height helped convince President Dwight Eisenhower to desegregate schools, encouraged President Lyndon Johnson to appoint black women to government positions, counseled First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, stood next to Dr. King when he delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech, and sat on the stage for President Barack Obama's first inauguration. Today marks the 102nd anniversary of her birthday, a moment celebrated by a Google Doodle in her honor.

Aretha Franklin Might Cover Beyoncé’s “Bootylicious”

According to Vanity Fair, Aretha Franklin spent this past Saturday doing the exact same things you did: chatting with Denzel Washington, responsibly abstaining from alcohol, and talking to Rolling Stone about her plans to cover Beyoncé on her next album. At an early birthday party for the Queen of Soul this past weekend, Franklin told the magazine that she is considering paying homage to her successor in musical flawlessness on her next LP, a compilation of covers of her favorite female recording artists.

Franklin revealed that she has even narrowed down Beyoncé’s expansive discography to a few candidates. “I like ‘Bootylicious’ [and] ‘Survivor’,” Franklin said. (Technically, we suppose she would actually be covering Destiny’s Child in this scenario, but we’ll forgive her.) “[M]y little granddaughter loves ‘Survivor.’ [Beyoncé]’s a worker . . . And I can appreciate that. I’m a worker,” she told the magazine. The album will also include homages to Donna Summer and Barbra Streisand, and will be produced by Clive Davis.

See Halle Berry as Storm in New Trailer for 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'

Fox has released a new trailer for X Men: Days of Future Past, which sees a mashup of two different generations of mutants as the original X-Men join forces with their younger selves in a battle to save humanity according to Shadow and Act. Halle Berry reprises her role as Storm in a cast that includes Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Omar Sy.The film hits theaters on May 23

According to BET Centric, an Al Green biopic has been years in the making with Mekhi Phifer taking the lead but, as it stands, no such project has gone into production.  Back in 2005, the actor confirmed that he was working on the film with John Wells Productions and would be speaking with AG to iron out the details. The story was said to chronicle the singer's high-profile career as he dabbled in drugs and alcohol before rehabilitating himself and becoming a reverend.  Fast forward to 2014 and Phifer still has the project on his brain.  "I've always been an avid fan of Al Green. I would love to do the Al Green story," he recently told Sister 2 Sister. "I think his story is a very intriguing one and when you talk about a character arc ... his story is the ultimate character arc to me."

Phifer added that he would be more than willing to take vocal lessons in order to conquer the role of a lifetime.  "I can act like I can sing, the way Angela Bassett act like she was Tina Turner," he said. "That's something that I would love to explore. I love the music. I love the era in which he’s at the height of his career. I would definitely love to do something like the Al Green story."  There is no word on if the biopic will move forward.  For now, fans can catch Phifer on season three of "House of Lies" and in the upcoming Lifetime movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short.

Throwback Thursday: My Interview with Whitney Houston

One of the best days of my life happened many moons ago with the voice known as Whitney Houston.  Can you believe my very first television interview was with one of the biggest stars on the planet? This was no 20/20 interview, but more of a moment in time where I was afforded the opportunity to express just how much I loved her.  Anyone who knows me, knows how much I grew up loving Whitney Houston. So, this was a big deal, not just because it was Whitney, but because I had been a lifetime fan. Even though the MTV show was called FANatic, which probably best described me at that time, I absolutely hated that word.  The first chance I got, I  told Whitney I was her friend.  From that day on whenever Whitney and I saw each other, "Friend" is what she called me. I will always love her for that.  Walk back in time with me on this Throwback Thursday and experience my dream come true interview with the one and only, Whitney Houston!

Kim Fields Shares "Miracle" Baby Boy Quincy With The World

According to The YBF, Actress Kim Fields has revealed the first photos of her 4-month-old "miracle" baby boy Quincy! Back in December, the 44-year-old former "Living Single" star became a mommy for a second time, welcoming baby Quincy Xavier Morgan with her husband Christopher Morgan and big brother Sebastian. Kim shared little Quincy was named after legendary music producer Quincy Jones.  In the newest issue of Closer Weekly, Kim talked about how much of a blessing baby Quincy is to her and her family after suffering two miscarriages.
“I know it sounds like a cliché, but it’s a blessing. There was so much gratitude that he was here and healthy.”
The couple was trying to have another baby before Quincy, but was unsuccessful.
“He [Christopher Morgan] thought I might be dehydrated, then I find out I’m two months pregnant! I was stunned out of my mind,” Kim says. “We were both overjoyed,” adds Chris.
Little Quincy was born on December 3, 2013 in Atlanta after a C-section. Kim shared the precious moments of them singing as Quincy entered the world:
“Turns out the anesthesiologist was totally into singing, so we were doing three-part harmonies and holding hands! We were singing ‘Family’ from Dreamgirls when Quincy came out.”
And big brother Sebastian is totally smitten with his little brother:
“They look a lot alike. Sebastian loves bragging about his little brother. He tells his teachers at school everything he does. He is Quincy’s publicist at this point,” Kim jokes to Closer.
At her age, will Kim decide to add another addition to their family?
“Never say never. Being a mom is really the greatest role in my life.”

Sidebar: Never give up moms to be out there. BTW I love Kim's baby's name.

Bille Woodruff has been selected to direct ‘Drumline 2: A New Beat‘ for VH1, states Deadline.  Written by Karen Gist, the story centers on strong willed and talented Dani Bolton, who defies her parents, and instead of going to Spelman College, heads off to SEU so she can join the excellent Rolling Red Thunder Drumline.  Charles Stone III directed the original film in 2002, which starred Nick Cannon and Zoe Saldana. According to its Wikipedia page, the film opened to highly positive reviews with most critics liking the energy and playing of the musical bands in the film. It was a success at the box office, earning over $56 million in the U.S., and almost $1.2 million in foreign markets. Cannon will exec produce the sequel.  Woodruff’s next film Addicted will be released in October by Lionsgate.

Sidebar: I loved the first drumline especially since it was filmed on my old college campus, Clark Atlanta University. Congrats Bille! When I was an intern at BET, director Bille Woodruff worked there as a producer. Look at him now. Go Bille.
