According to BlackFilm.com, Suzzanne Douglas, All My Children’s Cornelius Smith, Jr. are set to Play Cissy and Michael Houston in Lifetime biopic on Whitney Houston. With filming underway, casting is near complete the Lifetime Original Movie, I Will Always Love You: The Whitney Houston Story, marking the directorial debut of actress Angela Bassett. Recently added to the cast are Suzzanne Douglas and former soap star Cornelius Smith Jr. (All My Children) in the roles of Whitney’s mother, soul and Gospel singer Cissy Houstonand brother Michael, respectively. Yaya DaCosta Alafia will star as the Grammy Award singer-actreess who died on February 11, 2012 in her hotel room in Los Angeles. Arlen Escarpeta will play her ex-husband Bobby Brown, with Yolondo Ross cast in the role ofWhitney‘s longtime friend Robyn Crawford. Set for 2015, the film will center on the relationship between Houston and her ex-husband Bobby Brown, from the time they met at the height of their celebrity, their dating period and their up-and-down marriage. Throughout their marriage, their were several highs and lows as the couple dealt with fame and fortune. Whitney’s brother Michael Houston was the first child of John Russell Houston, Jr. and Cissy Houston.
Suzzanne Douglas is a veteran of numerous TV series and films, some of Douglas’ credits include for her role as Jerri Peterson on the Robert Townsend’s WB comedy series The Parent ‘Hood, I’ll Fly Away, Jason’s Lyric, The Inkwell, and How Stella Got Her Groove Back where she co-starred with Angela Bassett. From December 2007 to September 2011, Smith, Jr. was best known for his portrayal of Frankie Hubbard on the ABC daytime drama All My Children. In 2010, he won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series. Coincidentally, both Smith, Jr. and DaCosta Alafia appeared as brother and sister on All My Children.
