Singer, B.Simone, To Star In Aaliyah Feature Film

Singer B. Simone (pictured above) has reportedly been cast to play Aaliyah for a second movie project.  This movie will be on the big screen, and not a made-for-TV movie.

“We’re in a position where we can do the feature film and we can do the music,” said a source close to production.

According to Sister 2 Sister, another biopic is in the works to center on the 22-year-old songstress who died in a tragic plane crash.  But unlike the TV movie, this film will hit big screens and her former manager/uncle is reportedly involved.
The big screen biopic will include the star’s hit songs as well as never-before-released music.

Shadow and Act reports erotica author Zane will pen the script and the film is slated for a 2015 release. The author shared a link to the Sister 2 Sister article on her Facebook page.

Terrence Howard and Wood Harris have been named as potential co-stars.

The Lifetime biopic starring Alexandra Shipp has had a lot of problems. Its first star, Zendaya Coleman, dropped out of the project due to production issues and not having the family's consent. The family also denounced the film and said Aaliyah deserved a big screen movie.

In a statement, the Haughton family said:

"Lifetime Television is trying to dictate the status of our heroes, our heroines and – in this case – our beloved Aaliyah. We implore everyone to call Lifetime Television, send emails and bombard social media so they know we demand respect for our cultural icons.

We will not sit idly by while they misrepresent and reap profits from our luminaries. There is more at stake than the public could imagine."

Lifetime’s TV movie is scheduled for a fall debut, but those associated with the feature film think people will still want to see their movie.

Eric Benét and His Wife Welcome Another Baby Girl

According to Us Weekly, Eric Benet and his wife, Manuela Testolini, welcomed their second child on Sunday, July 13.  The couple's daughter, Amoura Luna, arrived (with a full head of hair!) at 6 lbs. and 13 oz.  The little tot has an adorable dimple on her right cheek and was given the middle name "Luna" because she was born on the night of a supermoon. Us broke news in March that Benet, 47, and Testolini, 37, were expecting their second child together. The couple welcomed daughter Lucia Bella in December 2011.  "Manuela is truly proving to be the world's best mother," Benet told Us at the time. "She is so attentive, nurturing and loving."  Benet—who was married to Halle Berry for four years until their split in 2005—is also dad to daughter India, 23, from a previous relationship.

Is Beyoncé Shopping for a New Apartment without Jay-Z?

According to The New York Post, Beyoncé may already have one foot out the door — she’s been secretly shopping for new digs without Jay Z.  She looked at a $21.5 million Chelsea penthouse early last month.  “She was very quiet, as if she was looking on the sly,” a source said.  Fueling the notion that Beyoncé is not shopping for both of them is the fact that Jay Z has always been extremely involved in their real estate deals, sources said.  Yet he was nowhere to be seen during the apartment showing, they added.  Jay also would be loath to leave their current posh Tribeca pad, a source said.

Noting that the couple’s 8,309-square-foot Tribeca crib is more than twice the size of the 4,045-square-foot West 19th Street pad Bey was looking at, the source added, “I can say with certainty that Jay is not downsizing.”  The source said it would seem clear the new home is for Beyoncé and their 2-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy.  “There’s no way a $20 million apartment is for her mother or her sister. That would be wildly unlikely,’’ the source said.  As The Post reported Sunday, sources say it’s not a question of if the power couple will split but when.  The apparent trouble between them surfaced May 5, when Solange was caught on video punching and kicking Jay Z in front of Bey in a Manhattan hotel elevator.  A source told The Post that Solange attacked her brother-in-law because she thought he was planning to meet Rihanna later that night.  The Chelsea pad is being marketed by Town Residential Realtors Wilbur Gonzalez and Adam Taylor, who declined to comment.  A publicist for Beyoncé hung up when asked for a comment, while a Jay Z rep said she knew nothing about either of them looking for a new apartment.

'For The Love of Whitney' - A Tribute Film to Whitney Houston

For the Love of Whitney is a 100 minute tribute film, which includes a collection of never before seen interviews with celebrities that spent quality time with Whitney on the stage, in the studio or on a film set. We conducted over 20 Studio Q interviews with celebrities who share stories detailing their fond memories with Whitney.  This DVD took us almost a year to make and is not a mass produced project, but rather a labor of love from fans who wanted to contribute love to Whitney's legacy. We idolized Whitney Houston growing up, so this is less of a documentary, and more of a tribute film, offering only a positive perspective about Whitney. The negative headlines have already been well documented by mainstream media.  We wanted to create something that was only filled with love for her. It is pretty awesome to watch something that really highlights the beauty of Whitney inside and out. Everyone you love should have a tribute like this done for them.

Jessie J's 'Bang Bang,' Featuring Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj [LISTEN]

According to Billboard, "Bang Bang," Jessie J's star-studded new single featuring Ariana Grande Nicki Minaj, has hit the Internet one day before its official release.  Composed of piercing vocals courtesy of two contemporary crooners, as well as rapid-fire spitting from the hottest female MC on the planet, "Bang Bang" rests tidily upon the Ariana Grande assertion, "See anybody could be good to you/You need a bad girl to blow your mind." The chorus is all sass and brass, the handclaps zip by and fly back like a boomerang, and Nicki Minaj sneers, "It's me, Jessie and Ari/If they test me, they sorry."
Produced by Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and Ilya, "Bang Bang" leads Jessie J's new album on Lava/Republic, due out this fall. The song will also appear on the deluxe edition of Grande's "My Everything" album, which has already spawned a pair of Top 20 hits with "Problem" and "Break Free."  "Bang Bang" is still expected to hit digital retailers on Tuesday (July 29), and details of Jessie J's next album -- which follows last year's overseas release "Alive" -- are forthcoming.

According to Essence, Smokey Robinson, Jr. has brought together some of his favorite friends to collaborate with him on the new album, Smokey & Friends (out August 19).  Here, the legendary singer teams up with Mary J. Blige for a contemporary take on the single, "Being With You." The song originally peaked at number 2 on Billboard charts when it was released in 1981.

On Smokey & Friends, Robinson revisits classics from his Motown catalogue, including "My Girl," "Tears of a Clown," and "Ooh, Baby, Baby." It will also feature Robinson's duets with the likes of Cee-lo, Miguel, Aloe Blacc, and Jessie J. “We’re trying to captivate some new audience members,” says Robinson. “I would just like the younger listeners to take away that somebody who is their era or in the genre of music that they like is singing with me and they’re going to be curious as to why this particular person wanted to sing with me if they don’t know who I am.”

Update: Pebbles Responds to Claims About Secret Love Child with El Debarge

Update: Pebbles responds to the claims that she and El Debarge had a love child today on Twitter. Turns out she doesn't even know El Debarge. See the tweets below:

According to Centrictv.com, R&B singers El Debarge and Pebbles' secret love child is gearing up to release a shocking tell-all book next month. Sebastian 'Tian' McKissack, 20, is set to release Deceptions of Achieving, a memoir detailing his life in the shadow of his two R&B star parents, and how their decision not to acknowledge him negatively affected his life.

“She [Pebbles] came to my 10th birthday party...that’s about it," shared McKissack in a 2013 interview with Hollywood Street King. "We did have frequent phone conversations, so I’ve known her all my life. “Deceptions will also find Sebastian opening up about being sexually abused as a child---something he has never publicly addressed until now.

The release of the book comes five months after Debarge's mother, Etterlene DeBarge made the revelation that El, 53, was indeed Sebastian's father, after feeling her son was being made to look like a deadbeat.

"My son [EL] never neglected him and I made sure of that," shared the DeBarge matriarch. "Sebastian lived with me from 2007-2009 due to his behavioral problems so if he is saying he was completely neglected by my side of the family it’s a LIE! I'm sorry it came to this.”

Both El and Pebbles (born Perri McKissack) have yet to respond.

Updated Sidebar: Pebbles like uh, excuse me, I don't think so. Twitter is a great tool for celebrities to clear rumors up quickly.

Sidebar: If this is true Wow, Pebbles and El! He definitely looks like El Debarge. This is a pretty big secret. That book is going to spill all kinds of tea.  I wonder who else has love children out there.

Sherri Shepherd Will Not Lose Custody of Son

According to TMZ, Sherri Shepherd will continue to have primary physical custody of her 9-year-old son after winning a court battle on Monday.  Sherri emerged victorious over Jeffrey Tarpley after yesterday’s hearing in L.A. County Court — he was seeking full custody of their son, but was denied by the judge.  Jeffrey made some horrendous claims about Sherri neglecting Jeffrey Jr. — including blaming her for the boy not being able to read or tie his shoe laces.  The judge clearly disagreed. In court docs — obtained by TMZ — she wrote, “there has not been a material change in circumstances to grant the request.”  After court Sherri asked fans to “keep the prayers coming.”  She still has an ongoing battle with estranged husband Lamar Sally. (Source)

Cissy Houston Blasts Whitney Biopic: 'Please Let Her Rest'

According to BET Centric, it's no secret that the Whitney Houston estate is fed up with the public trying to make a buck off the late singer's legacy. In the case of Lifetime's forthcoming biopic, those close to the star have tried their best to put a stop to the project.  While the film continues to move forward with Angela Bassett making her directorial debut, Whitney's mother Cissy Houston is speaking out about her frustrations with individuals going against her wishes.
In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, she said:
"Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family's objections. No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby. In the two years since Whitney's death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn't know her. We are exhausted by the continuing misinformation and comments offered by people who did not know her. Please please let her rest."
Yaya DaCosta is set to play Whitney alongside Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown in a love story centered on the former couple's rocky relationship. It was previously announced that Deborah Cox will provide vocals for Whitney's biggest hits as "music rights and clearances are still being worked out."

A$AP Rocky Sued for Allegedly Slapping Female Fan

According to TMZ, A$AP Rocky allegedly slapped a female fan during a Philadelphia music festival and now she's dragging him into court with a lawsuit.  Lisamarie Wade claims the rapper hauled off and smacked her -- for no apparent reason as he made his way through the crowd last year knocking her to the ground and disorienting her.

In her docs, Wade claims the rapper has a long history of bad behavior including a similar incident two months before the Philly show in which he allegedly smacked a female fan in Australia.

TMZ broke the story Wade filed a private criminal complaint but eventually withdrew it when she couldn't locate him to serve him with the complaint.

Wade's already making a play for the heartstrings of a potential jury claiming Rocky's slap caused a string of ailments which interfere with her ability to "enjoy society with her minor child as a young, single mother." Wade is suing for damages of at least $75K. She called in to TMZ Live a few days after the alleged smackdown.

Ray J Charged With Sexual Battery By Los Angeles D.A., Police Officers Disagree

According to TMZ, the L.A. County D.A. has thrown the book at Ray J charging him Monday with 10 CRIMES in connection with his drunken antics last May.  The D.A. charged Ray J with sexual battery even though cops say no such crime was committed.

Ray J was at a bar at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel when he got rowdy, brushed up against a woman's ass and was ordered to leave.   Police told TMZ at the time it was NOT a sexual battery because the contact was "incidental" not intentional.  Apparently the D.A. begs to differ.

Ray J left the bar and then went nuts in an alcohol-fueled rampage.  He was arrested, kicked out the window of a cop car and spit on an officer.  Ray J told TMZ he kicked out the window because he was claustrophobic.

In addition to the misdemeanor battery charge, Ray J was charged with 4 counts of resisting arrest, 3 counts of assault and battery and 2 counts of vandalism all misdemeanors.

Lifetime Movie to Include Whitney's Music, but Not Her Voice.

According to Eonline, Lifetime's upcoming Whitney Houston movie will feature some of the late singing legend's music.  However, there is one hitch—we won't actually be hearing the voice of Houston or Yaya DaCosta, the former America's Next Top Model hopeful who is playing her in the Angela Bassett-directed film.
Houston's songs will be sung by wait for it, R&B singer Deborah Cox!  A Lifetime rep says that "music rights and clearances are still being worked out," but Cox will be providing the "vocal tracks."
It was announced in May that Bassett, who co-starred with Houston in Waiting to Exhale, would make her directorial debut with the Lifetime original movie about the late singer. The movie is said to be focusing on Houston's relationship with Bobby Brown.
Just yesterday, Lifetime released the first photo of DaCosta as Houston and Arlen Escarpeta as the former New Edition singer.  Houston's family is not involved with the production.
"I really just want to tell a story about a boy and a girl who fell in love," Bassett recently told CNN. "And these are the words and this is the place, and these are the people on the outside, you know? And I want to be as honest as I can about doing that."
She also said that Houston's substance abuse will be addressed. "Well, we know that drugs were a part of their story and that's certainly an element of their story. We can't tell their story without that," Bassett said. "It's involved, and I hope we can unpack it gently."
Rounding out the cast are Yolanda Ross as Houston's best friend Robyn Crawford,Suzzanne Douglas as her mom Cissy and Mark Rolston as Clive Davis, the music industry icon who discovered Houston in 1983.
The movie, which is currently shooting in Los Angeles, is set to premiere on Lifetime next year.
Sidebar: Wow, no Whitney vocals. Hmmm....that will be strange. But I do love me some Deborah Cox. I can't imagine how this is all going to come together but I'm waiting to see how it does.  For everyone who is not on board for this movie check out our documentary about Whitney. It is all love. When I say it's 100 % percent positive I truly mean it. For fan reviews and more info on our film, For The Love of Whitney --->CLICK HERE. It is the Best thing you Never saw about Whitney.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adult Swim is locking downAaron McGruder.  The Boondocks and Black Jesuscreator and Peabody Award winner has inked a first-look overall deal with the cabler, Adult Swim announced Tuesday.  Under the pact, McGruder — who also has Black Jesus at Adult Swim — is producing a new live-action adventure pilot called Hooligan Squad under the pact. The comedy centers on an American insurgency in Japanese-occupied San Francisco, set in the near future. McGruder will pen the pilot and exec produce alongside LEG'sNorman Aladjem and R&G Productions' Steven Tzirlin."With The Boondocks and the upcoming Black Jesusseries, we consider Aaron very instrumental in the success of Adult Swim, and this deal is the continuation of a great partnership," said Mike Lazzo, executive vp and creative director at Adult Swim.
Added McGruder: "It's a rare thing to have a network home. Even more rare is a home that wants to see you grow and expand as a creator. Adult Swim is headed to new horizons, and I'm happy to be along for the ride."  McGruder's upcoming live-action comedy Black Jesuswill bow in August on Adult Swim. That series centers on Jesus living in present-day Compton, Calif., on a daily mission to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood with the help of his small but loyal group of downtrodden followers.  McGruder, who created the series, will executive produce via his 5 Mutts Productions along with Trailer Park Boys' writer-director Mike Clattenburg as well as Aladjem and John Bravakis.
Cult animated comedy The Boondocks ran for three seasons (45 episodes) on Adult Swim from 2005 to 2010. The series ended its four-season run in April. Tupac Inspired Musical 'Holla If Ya Hear Me' to Close

According to Essence, the Broadway musical modeled around the lyrics and poetry of the late Tupac Shakur is set to close its doors just two months after opening. Holla if ya Hear Me began previews at the Palace Theater on June 2 and officially opened June 19. Some theater industry insiders projected this fate due to the alarmingly low attendance turnout during previews. The play has grossed $942,493 in total, while most Broadway shows rake in an estimated $1 million weekly. The final performance of Holla if ya Hear Me will be July 20.

Did Natalie Cole Blast Patti LaBelle For 'After Midnight' Performance?

Dish Nation reports Natalie Cole had some strong feelings toward Patti LaBelle's work ethic and performance behind the scenes of the now-defunct Broadway show After Midnight
Both singers had a limited engagement in the Tony-nominated production (along with Gladys Knight), but the show abruptly came to a close in June due to poor ticket sales. While Cole and Knight never got their time in the spotlight, they were able to watch LaBelle from the sidelines.
"Natalie was overheard telling friends that Fantasia really made the show work, but Patti was just not up to par," a source told Dish Nation. "People were saying that Patti would get tired in middle of her set and would just mouth the words instead of singing them. Natalie didn’t hold back — she went on to say that Patti had lost her touch — saying she was too old and too tired to make the performance work."
Other celebrities allegedly agreed that LaBelle's effort was lacking, but no one was more vocal than Cole.  The source added, "Natalie loves Patti’s voice, but she didn’t think she was right for this."
Sidebar: Judge Judy would call this hearsay, but if it is true shame on Natalie Cole. If Patti did not perform up to her standards lets give her the benefit of the doubt for the 50 years in this business that she has ripped the stage. How about that?! It's sad to read about women saying negative things about each other no matter how old they are. Have several seats to anyone dissing Patti.  She is a legend who at 70 years old can still  sing circles around anyone.

Pam Oliver Replaced by Erin Andrews

According to The YBF, after 19 years as one of the network's top reporters (officially called the No. 1 sideline spot) Pam Oliver has been sidelined to the No. 2 Fox team with Kevin Burkhardt and John Lynch. She's been replaced by the very-blonde Erin Andrews.
This isn't new news to Pam. She's know for a little while. She told SI,
“To go from the lead crew to no crew was a little shocking,” Oliver said. “I said I wanted to do a 20th year [on the sidelines]. I expressed to them that I was not done and had something to offer. Again, I think it was predetermined coming in. Not at that meeting, but two years ago it was determined that no matter what I did or did not do, a change would be made for this year.”
“Disappointment is not really a word I’d use right now because I’ve had some weeks to process it,” Oliver continued. “I think my emotions during the season will be sadness because I had been around that group for a decade. I will miss all the little things, just from Joe’s impersonations of people and Troy’s bad impersonations of people and all of the running jokes -- that was the hardest part of hearing the news. But you have to move forward and deal with what is on your plate. I went through a range of emotions, but as I speak with you today, disappointment has passed me and I have reached a point of trying to move forward with some sadness."
A few months ago, you'll recall Pam was the subject of thousands of NASTY memes because of some of her "sideline" hairstyles. They often compared her to Chubaka from Star Wars
Sidebar: That sucks. I hope she gets an even better opportunity. Erin Andrews is replacing everyone. First on DWTS now Pam.
