Yolonda Ross Cast as Robyn Crawford in 'Whitney Houston' Biopic on Lifetime


According to Blackfilm.com, Yolonda Ross has been cast in the role of Whitney Houston's longtime friend, Robyn Crawford, in the Lifetime TV biopic.  This will mark the directorial debut for actress Angela Bassett.  Ross joins Yaya DaCosta Alafia who will star as the Grammy Award winning singer-actress, Whitney Houston.

Set for 2015, the film will center on the relationship between Houston and her ex-husband Bobby Brown, from the time they met at the height of their celebrity, their dating period and their up-and-down marriage. Throughout their marriage, their were several highs and lows as the couple dealt with fame and fortune.

In an Esquire magazine article, Crawford states that she first met Whitney in East Orange, New Jersey when they were only 16 years old and spent years traveling alongside the singer.  At some point, Crawford also managed a part of Whitney’s career.  


‘Whitney Houston’ will be produced by the Sanitsky Company. Larry Sanitsky, who worked with Bassett on the Lifetime film ‘Betty and Coretta,’ will serve as the executive producer. Shem Bitterman, who wrote ‘Coretta’ is onboard as the screenwriter.

Ross, who received an Indie Spirit Awards nomination this year for her supporting turn inJohn Sayles’ “Go for Sisters,” will also appear alongside Jennifer Lopez and Viola Davis in Charles Stone III‘s indie movie “Lila & Eve.”
