According to BET Centric, an Al Green biopic has been years in the making with Mekhi Phifer taking the lead but, as it stands, no such project has gone into production.  Back in 2005, the actor confirmed that he was working on the film with John Wells Productions and would be speaking with AG to iron out the details. The story was said to chronicle the singer's high-profile career as he dabbled in drugs and alcohol before rehabilitating himself and becoming a reverend.  Fast forward to 2014 and Phifer still has the project on his brain.  "I've always been an avid fan of Al Green. I would love to do the Al Green story," he recently told Sister 2 Sister. "I think his story is a very intriguing one and when you talk about a character arc ... his story is the ultimate character arc to me."

Phifer added that he would be more than willing to take vocal lessons in order to conquer the role of a lifetime.  "I can act like I can sing, the way Angela Bassett act like she was Tina Turner," he said. "That's something that I would love to explore. I love the music. I love the era in which he’s at the height of his career. I would definitely love to do something like the Al Green story."  There is no word on if the biopic will move forward.  For now, fans can catch Phifer on season three of "House of Lies" and in the upcoming Lifetime movie A Day Late and a Dollar Short.
