Aretha Franklin Might Cover Beyoncé’s “Bootylicious”
According to Vanity Fair, Aretha Franklin spent this past Saturday doing the exact same things you did: chatting with Denzel Washington, responsibly abstaining from alcohol, and talking to Rolling Stone about her plans to cover Beyoncé on her next album. At an early birthday party for the Queen of Soul this past weekend, Franklin told the magazine that she is considering paying homage to her successor in musical flawlessness on her next LP, a compilation of covers of her favorite female recording artists.
Franklin revealed that she has even narrowed down Beyoncé’s expansive discography to a few candidates. “I like ‘Bootylicious’ [and] ‘Survivor’,” Franklin said. (Technically, we suppose she would actually be covering Destiny’s Child in this scenario, but we’ll forgive her.) “[M]y little granddaughter loves ‘Survivor.’ [Beyoncé]’s a worker . . . And I can appreciate that. I’m a worker,” she told the magazine. The album will also include homages to Donna Summer and Barbra Streisand, and will be produced by Clive Davis.
