The announcement of the series' return came in a crafty way – in an ad that appeared in the final episode of season 2 of Netflix's House of Cards, which was released Friday.
Set in a women's prison, OITNB, which debuted in July 2013 and was inspired by a true story, stars Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman, who earns prison time for carrying drug money for her former girlfriend, Alex (Laura Prepon). Other returning cast members include Taryn Manning as the born-again Christian (and dentally challenged) inmate Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett.
Cast members offered their own behind-the-scenes look in selfies posted online in January as they completed shooting the new season's 13 episodes.
"The show just continues to get wild and the writing is supreme," Manning told Access Hollywood earlier this month. "You just get to peek in a little bit more into the characters and you really start to get to know other characters that maybe you didn't get to know in season 1."
