The Queen Latifah Show Debuts in September

According to Shadow and Act it was almost exactly 1 1/2 years ago when it was announced that Will Smith, his Overbrook Entertainment cohorts, and Queen Latifah were teaming up with Sony Pictures TV to produce a syndicated daytime talk show for the Queen to host.  Details have been scarce, except that the program was scheduled to debut in 2013, and, after some competitive bidding between networks, CBS landed what will be called The Queen Latifah Show (recall the Queen once hosted a talk show, also titled The Queen Latifah Show, which had a rather short run, from 1999 to 2001. Expectations for this upcoming new program are probably higher).  The show - which will feature celebrity interviews, human interest stories, comedy, pop culture and musical performances, and showcasing Queen Latifah’s talents, blending comedy and music into her hosting duties, is set to officially premiere on Monday, September 16, 2013. Previously, an 11am start time was slotted, but it looks like that might change, since no time-slot is currently listed on all marketing materials I've laid eyes on.  Assuming it will still air at 11am on weekdays, Latifah will be going up directly against the women of The View on ABC, which also comes on at 11am daily.   Latifah will join what is already a crowded daytime talk show market, although none of the current crop of new shows has produced what we'd call a breakout hit, which might give a high-profile show like Latifah's the opportunity to fill in a gap left vacant by Oprah Winfrey's departure. She'll be joining the aforementioned Wendy Williams (on Fox, although it's syndicated), Steve Harvey (NBC/Universal), Trisha Goddard (also with NBC/Universal), Live on ABC, The Talk, The View, and others.  Latifah definitely stays busy (via her Flavor Unit production house, along with partner Shakim Compere), both in front of and behind the camera, on TV and in film. Below is a sneak peek of what is to come.

Did You Know That LL Cool J's Wife, Simone Smith, Is A Cancer Survivor?

Did You Know That LL Cool J's Wife, Simone Smith, Is A Cancer Survivor? In 2004, Simone was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer called chondorosarcoma. According to Blackdoctor.org this year marks the ninth year that Mrs. Simone Smith has been cancer free.  Most people know her as the wife of famed rapper/actor LL Cool J, but Simone Smith is much more. With the launch of her jewelry line called SIS (Simone I. Smith) Jewelry, this mother of four is an entrepreneur.
After her stage III diagnosis, the family, especially Mr. LL himself, stopped everything in order to be with her and to assist her on the road to recovery.  In her own words, Simone says, “I have a piece of jewelry, that when it’s purchased, proceeds go towards the American Cancer Society. The reason why I did that is because back in 2004, I had a very invasive surgery done because they found a chondrosarcoma tumor in my tibia bone. So I had an invasive surgery called microvasuclar reconstructive surgery, and they had to remove my whole tibia bone and replace it with my fibular bone from my left leg. It took me almost 2 1/2 years to learn how to walk again. I fought through it, so I was a little depressed for like about…two weeks…but my grandmother called me up and told me, ‘you better not be depressed and get prayed up for those doctors who are doing this surgery on you and you’re gonna beat this.’ So I prayed to God and since then my test results have been great.
When asked what keeps her inspired, Simone names three things: her faith in God, her husband and her children.  “We are a family who believes in working hard and pursuing our dreams…”

Sidebar: An amazing story of strength, love, faith and family! You never know what people have been through. Glad she shared her survival story.

OWN to Air 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live'

According to The Hollywood Reporter OWN is taking a shot with daytime Soaps.  Oprah Winfrey's cable network has acquired the first 40 episodes of All My Children and One Life to Live — currently running on The Online Network — for a limited 10-week run this summer.  The half-hour episodes will run Monday through Thursday beginning July 15. All My Children will air at 1 p.m. with One Life to Live airing at 3 p.m.  "These shows have proven to be very popular with a significant, loyal fan base, not to mention Oprah herself is a big fan,” said Erik Logan, president at OWN. “Many of our viewers across numerous platforms have expressed their passion for the soaps so we are especially excited to air this limited engagement on OWN.”  “We are really excited to bring OWN viewers and our audience at large an opportunity to catch up on All My Children and One Life to Live on traditional television,” said Jeff Kwatinetz, CEO Prospect Park Networks. “We look forward to our millions of fans enjoying the first 40 episodes of the shows."  It is unclear whether OWN will acquire more episodes if the soaps perform for the network.  All My Children and One Life to Live, both canceled by ABC in 2011, returned with new episodes April 29 on The Online Network.

Sidebar: See this is why I love me some Oprah Winfrey! These are two of my favorite soaps. She is going to win. People are going to flock to OWN. Better late then never. Grab a seat next to me future viewers. I have been here since the beginning. I love Oprah and really believe in her vision for this network. #Winning

Omari Hardwick Talks 'Being Mary Jane'

Studio Q spoke to Omari Hardwick (Sparkle, Middle of Nowhere) earlier this year about his upcoming BET project with Gabrielle Union called "Being Mary Jane," which is set to premiere on BET Tuesday, July 2. We interviewed Omari right before a pre-oscar event, "The Power 30" celebrating black men in the entertainment industry. What's great about this interview is when Omari stops talking to us to give dap to Superbowl Champ Terrell Suggs of The Baltimore Ravens during the interview. Looking forward to seeing more of him on screen.

Oprah Tweets Studio Q TV During Next Chapter

Yesterday I tweeted along with Oprah and her 19 million twitter followers during her Next Chapter show featuring four groundbreaking actresses including Alfre Woodard, Viola Davis, Phylicia Rashad and Gabrielle Union for an in-depth conversation about the challenges, criticism and competition they face as African-American women in Hollywood. It was such a great Sunday on OWN. First India Arie kicked it off with a must-see episode of Super Soul Sunday then later this intriguing episode of Next Chapter followed by the amazing documentary Dark Girls. But what I was dancing in the living room about was when Oprah RETWEETED my tweet and then TWEETED me directly to thank me for watching! Say What?! I was elated! Anyone who is on Twitter knows that Oprah is not on there everyday and when she is she doesn't tweet a whole lot, just enough. She even admits to not being the best at technology. So, to be able to get a tweet from her is like catching lightning in a bottle.  I mean how could she even see my tweet with 19 million followers let alone respond. I am beyond thrilled and it made my Sunday Best! See the tweet below.

I will add the tweet to my other Oprah encounters. Here my Best Friend Tam and I were honored to take a pic with Oprah following the finale of her first season of Life Class at her OWN offices in LA. During one of the commercial breaks I got Oprah's attention with my eyes. Yes, just my eyes, and mouthed to her if we could take a picture with her after the show was over. She nodded yes. When the show was over the staff was trying to rush us out and I looked at Oprah and sighed like a 3 year old then she said like a mama come on. And presto! We took a pic. She kept her word even though it was all nonverbal. I love this woman! She has given the world so much. I have met Oprah four times over the years but this is the only picture I have to show for it. Thanks Lady O. We appreciate you!

This Oprah moment is priceless too. My Best Friend and I (She loves Oprah too) went to the Oprah show during the final season. The show was about Best Friends and we got to sit in the 2nd row.  We were so close to Oprah and Gayle that it felt like a dream. After the show was over Oprah engaged with all of us in the audience and people were given the opportunity to ask questions. Oprah overlooked my hand, but called on my best friend, who then forfeited her question to me (very sweet, I know) and the rest is history! And to my surprise they even posted my question and Oprah's answer on Oprah.com! Yes, I know, ah-mazing! You would think that was enough but not when we are talking about Oprah. She surprised the whole audience of best friends with a free trip to Miraval Spa in Phoenix, AZ. Oprah even paid for our food and air-fare.  It is one of the best spas in the world. Tam and I went during memorial weekend of 2011 and saw none other than Ellen Degeneres and Portia! Yes that is what you call rubbing elbows with the rich and famous. In an effort to say Thank you for such an amazing time, my best friend sent Oprah a beautiful gift. We tweeted Oprah about it and she tweeted us both back! I hope to one day be writing about how I hung out with Oprah. But for now I am just grateful for every encounter I have already had with one of the most famous and respected woman in media! Thank you GOD. It has been a true gift to meet someone who has inspired me so.
This is what Tam sent to Oprah
This is the first time Oprah Tweeted me!

R&B DIVAS LA Preview

According to Funkydineva.com the super trailer for R&B Divas LA has been released and just like the Atlanta Divas, the main plot is centered around assembling all the characters to participate in a ensemble activity. The show chronicles the divas coming together as a whole while highlighting each woman’s personal issues. Once it looks like  the singing will take a back seat to the drama. On one hand I think it is so cool to have the opportunity to see such talented black women on TV, but what I don't know is why they would present themselves like they do. I just don't understand. Don't they know we are watching? Back in the day you just went out and bought your favorite record by your favorite artist. Now you're thinking ooh I love her or I can't stand her, and none of it has to do with their music careers. Times have definitely changed. We know more about their life than their art. And for most of them that is not a good thing.  Sometimes it's better to just go to a venue and hear singers sing then go home. Now we are at home with them. I hate to say it, but after watching some celebrities on reality TV you like them a whole lot less. Once we see you, we really see you, and we don't forget. I hope that the LA season is less drama but from the looks of the trailer below, don't hold your breath. Don't get me wrong I'll be watching, but maybe for all the wrong reasons.

Nene Leakes Re-Marries Gregg Leakes

According to Us Weekly, NeNe Leakes and Gregg Leakes have said "I do" for the second time! The Real Housewives of Atlanta star and New Normal actress remarried her ex-husband Gregg on Saturday, June 22, Us Weekly can confirm.  NeNe, 45, and her bridesmaids (which included castmate Cynthia Bailey and featured guest star Marlo Hampton) wore dresses designed by Gabriella Arango, and the day's events were filmed for her upcoming Bravo spinoff series, I Dream of NeNe: The Wedding, which is scheduled to premiere this fall.  "Got big plans this weekend?" NeNe tweeted on Friday, June 21. "Cause I do," she added with a smiley face.  The newlyweds were feted by star guests, including Jill Zarin, Gretchen Rossi, Patti Stanger, Omarosa, Slade Smiley and Marysol Patton. The wedding, which had a "Old Hollywood Glam" theme, took place at the InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta Hotel, with gospel singer Kim Burrell performing for the couple. According to the hotel's website, the 31,000 square foot venue boasts two ballrooms that are "both flexible and elegant."  As fans of RHOA know, NeNe and Gregg, 58, divorced back in 2011 after 13 years of marriage. The couple share son Brentt, 13, and initially parted ways after Gregg claimed "fame got to her head," and that he invested $300,000 in NeNe's fledgling acting career.  They reconciled and announced their engagement back in January.

Sidebar: Good for Nene and even better for Gregg. I wish them happiness.  Nene is my favorite housewife out of the Bravo Franchise. We'll get to see the whole thing unfold in her wedding special I dream of Nene. I wonder did she wear She by Sheree during the ceremony? Lol!

Paula Deen Blames Media For Misrepresentation

According to the LA Times Paula Deen released a new video on Friday afternoon in which she said the media have misrepresented her over her admitted use of the N-word and other racially charged language. She never directly addresses the comments at the center of the controversy. She does, however, take aim at media coverage. "I want people to understand that my family and I are not the kind of people that the press is wanting to say we are," Deen says, later adding: "Your color of your skin, your religion, your sexual preference does not matter, to me."  Deen goes on to say "what's in the heart" is what matters. "And my family and I try to live by that. And I am here to say I am so sorry. I was wrong." The video was the latest development in a day that started with Deen's scheduled appearance on the "Today" show to address the controversy. That appearance was canceled, with Deen's exhaustion given as the reason.  Deen then released a video statement in which she sought to apologize. That statement was pulled from YouTube -- reasons unknown -- minutes after it was posted. Shortly after that, the Food Network issuing a statement that it would not renew Deen's contract when it expired at the end of the month. Finally, there was the release of the latest video taped apology. Deen's critics -- those who say she did not take into consideration how her words may have hurt others -- will no doubt notice the subtle ways in which her statement talks about how much she has been hurt by the controversy.  That might not seem like best way to win over your critics.  New York City-based crisis management expert Mike Paul said Deen needed to offer a straight-up apology -- a "no ifs, ands or buts" statement of remorse that blames no one but herself for her actions. As a result, Paul said, "Look for more sponsors to drop next week ... not a true apology."  Paul noted that Deen's actions are also likely to drag her sons into the controversy, as they will no doubt be asked to comment about it. Both Bobby and Jamie Deen have Food Network shows that leverage their relationship with their famous mother. Bobby has "Not My Mama's Meals" in which he puts a slim spin on fatty Southern favorites. Meanwhile, "Home for Dinner With Jamie Deen" plays up his culinary pedigree as he makes some of Grandma Ginny's (that would be Paula Deen) recipes for his young son, Jack. "Sadly, she will be hurt much more before she learns she must be fully repentant to heal the hurt to others and begin to repair her and her family's reputation," Paul said.  The controversy unfolded this week with the revelation of court documents that included a transcript of a videotaped deposition in which Deen was asked about her use of racially charged language and comments.  Deen is being sued by a former employee at a restaurant Deen co-owns with her brother. The employee, who is white, says Deen often used racially charged language and created a hostile working environment.  During the course of the deposition, Deen, 66, said that "of course" she had used the N-word to describe black people -- but stressed that it had been long ago. She also conceded that she'd once considered planning a wedding party in which black waiters would be dressed in attire reminiscent of slave days. The theme was later dismissed. Deen had also allowed pornographic pictures to be passed around the workplace as a joke, according to the documentation.  All that said, a cursory look at the public's reaction on social media suggests that Deen still has many people in her camp.  On Food Network's Facebook page, for example, many were expressing outrage over the network's decision to part ways with Deen. One sample post: "SHAME on you food network for canceling Paula dean!!!!! Are you perfect??? You've never said anything you regret? I hope Everybody stops watching food network" Below is the video of apology for the N-word take 2.

Sidebar: I do not feel sorry for Paula Deen. She knows better. You don't go around saying the N-word and blaming being from the South, or being old. I was happy Twitter went HAM the other day with all those racicst #PaulaDeenDishes jokes.  She did this to herself. Her business is worth millions so be better about how you conduct yourself. I'm glad the Food Network did not renew her contract because it sets a tone for others who think it is not a big deal. Attention everyone, it is a big deal. Should she be forgiven? Yes, I think so, but no one should feel bad for her. She brought this on herself. She was way too comfortable with her racist habits. Don't believe me? Click Here and check out what she said to one of her black employees after an interview with the New York Times posted on TMZ Tsk,Tsk,Tsk, Paula, Paula, Paula get it together or retire. Just do one quick!

According to Necolebitchie.com since when does an artist announce an album release date less than a month before it’s release, without a single, and automatically go platinum. Ask Jay-Z.  He’s writing the new rules, according to his new 3-minute commercial with Samsung, which is the first visual from a deal that’s worth $20 million if reports are correct. Dark Girls Documentary to Premiere on OWN

According to YT, Dark Girls is a fascinating and controversial documentary film that goes underneath the surface to explore the prejudices that dark-skinned women face throughout the world. It explores the roots of classism, racism and the lack of self-esteem within a segment of cultures that span from America to the most remote corners of the globe. Women share their personal stories, touching on deeply ingrained beliefs and attitudes of society, while allowing generations to heal as they learn to love themselves for who they are.  Watch the world television premiere of Dark Girls on OWN. Tune in Sunday, June 23, at 10/9c.
Sidebar: I am really looking forward to seeing this. So happy OWN is going to premiere it. Black is so beautiful. It is a shame how we treat each other. I feel it is not just a spill over from slavery, but a direct result from it. Slavery intended to not just enslave our bodies, but our mind. I hope through documentaries like this we can see the error of what was taught to us and stop it.

New Fox Talk Show "The Real"

According to YBF.com daytime television may be getting its most diverse panel of opinionated women ever when "The Real" hits airwaves starring Tamar Braxton, Loni Love, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Adrienne Bailon and Jeannie Mai.  Telepix has several FOX affiliates ready to announce a younger, hipper version of "The View". And now, the first preview has hit the net.  The new chatfest, "The Real" is set to debut in several select cities on July 15.  The roundtable style show will feature the five busy career ladies dishing on everything from the latest celeb gossip to their views on love, sex and relationships.

Sidebar: I just watched the trailer for this show and I immediately fell in love. The personalities seem to all gel and most importantly they are talking about fun and entertaining topics. They also reflect the way the world really looks. I love that most! In a time where there is a black president you still are hard-pressed to find any shows that reflect real diversity. The reason why there is a Telemundo, TV ONE and a BET is because diversity is not reflected in mainstream. I'm will be watching this show. I really hope it is a hit! Oprah, now go get a hot panel for OWN!

Janelle Monáe Talks Prince Collaboration

Essence reports that Songstress Janelle Monáe is gearing up for the fall release of her forthcoming sophomore album The Electric Lady, and she recently revealed that fans can look forward to a special guest appearance by Prince. During an interview with Billboard, the "Q.U.E.E.N." singer said she and the music legend are "great friends" and spent some creative time in the studio together.  "It's a beautiful thing to have a friend — someone who cares about your career, and wants to see you go far and to push boundaries and shake up the world — give whatever they possibly can to the cause," she said.   Although Monáe is keeping the song's title under wraps, she did reveal that she had a opportunity to produce the record.  "I had a chance to produce an icon," she said. "It's not every day that he collaborates. I'm honored and humbled that he trusted me. He is forever my friend, and I am forever indebted. I can't say too much else about it." The Electric Lady, which hits stores in September, also includes a collaboration by R&B hitmaker Miguel.

Sidebar: People are going to eat this album up. Not this people, but people will. It will be a guaranteed success without me.
