Studio Q's Best of 2013 [Video]
#1. We love us some Whitney so of course creating a documentary on her is the number one thing we completed this year. We were so frustrated over the lack of positive portrayals of Whitney Houston in the media following her passing that we set out to create the Whitney tribute we wished to see in the world. Our documentary, 'For The Love of Whitney' is the best thing you never saw about Whitney! But don't take our word for it, just check out the reviews on Quencie.com and our Facebook Page.
#2. In March, we had so much fun capturing the rehearsals for BET's 13th annual Celebration of Gospel. Can you imagine getting to watch some of the best singers in the world do songs over and over again? It's the only time I wanted people to mess up, just so I could hear them perform it twice. Later, we got to interview some of Gospel's biggest names including: Tye Tribbett, Jason Nelson and James Fortune. In this video, we give you an exclusive behind the scenes VIP pass. It feels like you're right in the middle of one of the best praise and worship services ever. Everyone sounded great but Le' Andria Johnson gave us chills. She was so good that you forgot Tyrese was singing with her. Her voice is just magic! Get lifted and watch or re-watch rehearsals from Yolanda Adams, Kurt Carr, Tyrese Gibson, Le'Andria Johnson, Jessica Reedy, James Fortune, Jason Nelson, and Smokie Norful.
#3. In October, Studio Q attended a private screening of Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story at Xenlounge with Lil Mama. To watch Lil Mama actually become 'Left Eye' in the film and then interview her immediately afterwards was a big thrill. She was so cool and down to earth. Loved her!#4. Back in February, Studio Q was invited to The ICON MANN: Power 30 Pre-Oscar Dinner to celebrate black men in entertainment and multimedia. This was a special night because we were surrounded by black men in Hollywood, something that rarely happens. We were called at the last minute to attend this event so I'm glad we were free and could go. It was a great night! Studio Q interviews include: Omari Hardwick, David Oyelowo, Michael Ealy, Dennis Haysbert, Terrell Suggs, Lloyd Boston, and Jason Derulo.
#5. Studio Q TV had a blast covering The 23rd Annual NAACP Theatre Awards at the Saban Theatre in November. We were so excited to interview Lifetime Achievement award honoree Loretta Devine and Trailblazer Vanessa Williams. The lights from this red carpet event had us sweating buckets but like any party where you sweat we had a really good time.
#6. In April, Studio Q covered the annual Jenesse Silver Rose Awards Gala and Auction chaired by Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry. The event benefits Jenesse Center year round programs and services that serve women, children and families overcoming the ravages of domestic violence. We were a little disappointed that Halle Berry wasn't there this year, but we were elated that we got a chance to interview Academy Award nominated Viola Davis. It was such a huge honor.
#7. In August, Studio Q was on the red carpet for Kym Whitley's Maskymrade Birthday Party. Guests included Brandy, Kelly Price, Bobby Brown, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Yvette Nicole Brown, Sheree Fletcher, James Pickins, Jr., Vanessa Williams, Shondrella Avery, and Kym's son, Joshua, who is the breakout star of 'Raising Whitley' on OWN! It was hilarious how he took over our Studio Q mic to wish his mom a happy birthday. But the big moment that night was seeing Brandy. We had been trying to interview her all year for our Whitney project and boom here she was. We had no idea she was coming, so it was a big deal for us to get a chance to talk to her. Hopefully in 2014 we will get a sit-down.
#8. In August, Studio Q attended The Merge Summit which is one of the largest events for people of faith in the entertainment industry. It is a complete weekend of education, inspiration and entertainment. We interviewed everyone from Dietrich Haddon of Oxygen's controversial reality show 'Preachers of LA' to Grammy winner Erica Campbell who is one half of gospel duo Mary Mary.
#9. In July, Roland Martin hosted a Hollywood Soiree in Beverly Hills to celebrate the launch of his new daily TV show 'News One Now' on TV One. We interviewed everyone from Bill Duke to Faith Evans to Erika Alexander. Roland definitely knows how to throw a party and how to rock a ascot at the same time. He's such a fun guy.
#10. In October, Studio Q TV attended the 23rd Annual HIV/AIDS benefit concert 'Divas Simply Singing' at Club Nokia. We spoke to founder of Divas Simply Singing Sheryl Lee Ralph, Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Jenifer Lewis, Martha Wash, plus many more about HIV and AIDS Awareness.
#11. In May, Studio Q covered an exclusive reception to announce 'On The Vine' Martha's Vineyard 2013 and Santa Barbara 2014. It was a music, comedy, art and fashion experience benefiting breakthrough Kidney Disease Research among Africans. Hosted by American Friends of Rambam Health Care Campus Haifa, Israel. We interviewed actress Malinda Williams and Howard Hewitt. The event featured performances by The Tony Rich Project and violinist Miri Ben-Ari.
#12. Studio Q attended The Find a Cure Fundraiser event for Sickle Cell in November hosted by actress/comedian Shondrella Avery and Mixed Chicks. It is always cool to cover events with such purpose.
13. Studio Q was on the red carpet of Gospel Goes to Hollywood. We interviewed many of our favorite celebrities including Sheryl Lee Ralph who was one of the events honorees. At the same time we interviewed her she was being followed by TV One cameras for a series called "Life After." Our Studio Q Mic was featured in one of the clips of her 'Life After' episode that aired in September on TV One. YES! It may be small for some, but it was big for us to see our mic on TV. One day it won't just be our mic that you will see, but our show will be there too! Oh yeah, it's coming. We look forward to all that 2014 will bring us, and in turn that we will bring you!
