Carol Mendelsohn Teams With 'Scandal's' Judy Smith for CBS Medical Crisis Drama
From writer Ayelet Waldman (CBS' 2012 pilot Applebaum), the drama centers on a former doctor who has found her calling as a medical advocate, where she works on behalf of patients and their loved ones, solving medical crises and mysteries and guaranteeing people the care they deserve. Waldman will pen the script for the CBS Television Studios drama and executive produce alongside Mendelsohn and Carol Mendelsohn Productions president Julie Weitz. Smith will also executive produce. The drama marks Mendelsohn's third sale this development season. The CSI: Crime Scene Investigation showrunner also has an untitled 1960s surf drama in the works at The CW with 90210's Rebecca Sinclair and an adaption of legal memoir Law Man in the works at NBC. Carol Mendelsohn Productions is repped by WME. For Smith, The Advocate marks her latest foray into television following the breakout success of ABC's Scandal. The Kerry Washington political fixer drama is based on the career of crisis manager Smith, whose clients have included Monica Lewinsky, Wesley Snipes and Michael Vick, among others. In addition to her work on Scandal, Smith also was a consulting producer on Basketball Wives.
