Under the Red Carpet: My Life as R.Kelly’s Wife

Drea, who keeps it real on her VH1 reality series “Hollywood Exes,” said fans can expect the same from her book.  “I'm real. There's no facade when it comes to me, so I have no problem sharing my ups and my downs because it's who I am. I'm human, so to say that it's all glitz, glamor, fairy tales, pixy dust and glitter, I would be a liar. It's not, and it's okay that it's not because it’s real,” she told Sister 2 Sister.  Like “Hollywood Exes,” Drea said she wants her book to encourage women who might be a bit lost.  “It’s really a self-help book for women. It’s really teaching women how to get back to true essence of who you really are,” she told HipHollywood.com.  “It’s not juice and grease. It’s not a tell-all,” says Drea.  While some of her co-stars don’t remain in touch with their celebrity ex-husbands, Drea said she and R. Kelly are still cordial.  "It’s times when that eyebrow be tight, but then you have to go back to ‘This is the father of my children’ and we have to compromise,” she explained.  However, when it comes to R. Kelly the musician, Drea isn’t the least bit conflicted about supporting her ex.  “When he’s good, his kids are good,” she said.  “At the end of the day, I know how to separate Robert Kelly and R.Kelly the persona and the man the rest of the world knows,” she said.

Lenny Kravitz to Play Marvin Gaye

According to MSN Lenny Kravitz has signed on for his first leading film role, playing singer Marvin Gaye in a biopic that will be shot next year. The rocker's publicist, Carleen Donovan, confirmed the news Tuesday. Kravitz has played supporting roles in the past, including a small part in "The Hunger Games." Rolling Stone first reported details about the 48-year-old performer's part in the film, directed by Julien Temple. The magazine says the "Are You Gonna Go My Way" singer will portray Gaye during the 1980s when he was fighting his addictions and attempting to restart his career. Gaye died in 1984 after being shot by his father.

Two New Atlanta Shows Coming Soon to Bravo

According to Deadline, "Married to Medicine" and "Taking Atlanta" (the latter is a working tile) will join "Real Housewives of Atlanta" and "Don't Be Tardy" in Bravo's increasingly Georgia-centric unscripted roster. "Medicine" will document the doings of women doctors and doctors' wives, while "Taking Atlanta" seeks to capture what Deadline describes as a "group of aspiring and ambitious Atlanta locals as they make their mark in the arenas of fashion, music, hospitality and real estate while exploring the city’s sizzling social scene and balancing the demands of their tumultuous family situations." After all, what's a social scene if it's anything less than sizzling? Of course, NBC's cornerstone cable affiliate isn't the only network slicing into some Peach State action. Lifetime, for one, is currently in production on the first season of "Double Divas," which focuses on an Atlanta-based lingerie shop that boasts,  “No bust too big or small.  We fit them all!” Hopefully, when it comes to competing reality shows in their city, they have room for another set.

Sidebar: Um, I'm up to my neck in reality shows. I mean come on Bravo. Must we always just duplicate, instead of creating something fresh and new. I'm just about burnt out on The Housewives franchise.  Please give us something else for goodness sake!

Nicki Minaj Blames Walmart, Target for Low 'Pink Friday' Sales

According to EW.com while speaking to New York’s Power 105.1, Nicki Minaj presented the public with a preemptive explanation as to why her latest offering — Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up, released Nov. 19 — is suffering sales-wise. The official first-week tally for the album (which is a rerelease of her last album, plus eight new songs) won’t be in for a couple more days, but early indications of low sales have already put Minaj on the defensive.
“It is hard to get the album because the stores basically said that the last few re-releases they had put out did not do well and they didn’t want to take a chance,” Minaj told the radio station. "So, Target and Walmart is not selling the album. Target is actually my biggest retailer — they’ve always been my biggest retailer. They’ve sold the most Nicki Minaj albums ever, so, thank you, Target. But I wish you could’ve sold this one.”  She then moved on to discuss Best Buy, which she says “only took limited [quantities] because they’re like, ‘Oh we don’t know, we want to play it safe.’”  “So it’s very difficult and it kind of sets you up to fail,” she added, explaining that a number of her fans “have been driving hours – literally hours! — to get one CD. But it is what it is, and I appreciate the support, and I’m excited about the music.”

Sidebar: I like Nicki Minaj honest responses. She BLASTED the breakfast club for not doing their research. I would be horrified if someone I interviewed felt that way.  I want to interview her one day so she can tell me the opposite of what she told them.  Lol I loved this interview though!

Clive Davis Autobiography To Include Untold Stories of Whitney Houston

According to Your Black World Music Industry Don, Clive Davis, is penning a book for the producers of the future. The 80 year old mogul, who is responsible for such artists as, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, the late Luther Vandross, and the late Whitney Houston, has anticipated that the book will be published by February 2013. The book is said to cover the ups and downs of his career and the personal relationships that he has had with celebrities along the way.  Music journalist, Anthony DeCurtis, is on board to write the anthology of stories that the public has never heard before about their favorite celebs.  Whitney Houston is definitely in the mix of Davis’s untold stories, along with Janis Joplin, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen and many more.  Whitney Houston often referred to Clive as “dad”.  He was the one that shaped and molded her from the start, and never stopped believing in her. Aside from Whitney’s mother, close family, and friends, Clive Davis is the best person to speak about the girl everyone so lovingly called Nippy.

Life of Pi Movie Review

I was so excited to see Life of Pi over the holiday break.  I went to the 3D Imax theater and let me just say this movie is so visually stunning.  The technology is amazing and director Ang Lee has got to be a cinematic genius.  Even though Life of Pi did have me jumping a few times I realized five minutes into this movie I could have totally waited to see it at home on Netflix. You may disagree, but I doubt it.  It's visually gorgeous but I was missing more story.  I give most of the movie credit to the tiger and the awesome special effects.  Without either there would be no movie.  It basically can be summed up in the trailer that they show on TV.  A boy and a tiger named Richard Parker in the middle of the ocean.  I hate when you see the best part of a movie before you even get to the theater.  The only person I can recommend this movie to is Oprah Winfrey.  Why Oprah? Well, I really feel like she would take the time to find greater meaning in the story.  But anyone else (including me) would force me to give them their hard earned money back after even suggesting this.  I went to see Flight starring Denzel Washington the next day as a make up movie for my disappointment. It's really not as a bad as I'm making it sound, but I would definitely wait to see it later, unless you just love tigers.

Starz Cancels Boss After 2 Seasons

According to The LA Times Starz will not be moving forward with its political drama "Boss" after two seasons.  The series started out full-throttle, with the network renewing it for a second season even before its Season 1 debut -- which has become standard practice for the network. That wasn't the only thing working for it: The critics mostly praised the series -- starring Kelsey Grammer as corrupt Chicago Mayor Tom Kane, who wields power while trying to mask a deteriorating mental condition -- and it managed to earn a Golden Globe nomination for best drama and an acting win for Grammer.  But the numbers weren't on "Boss'" side. Its October 2011 premiere brought in 659,000 total viewers. The second season, which wrapped earlier this year, drew a stunted 317,000 viewers with its premiere and averaged under 580,000 over the season. Even when factoring in multiple airings for the drama, produced by Lionsgate TV, the total numbers were underwhelming.  “After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with 'Boss,'” the network said in a statement. "We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, [creator] Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV."  The network confirmed to Show Tracker that it was in discussions to wrap things up with a two-hour movie, but no deals are yet in place.  News of the show's demise comes as the network prepares to roll out two new dramas next year: "Da Vinci's Demons" and "The White Queen." That's in addition to the final season of "Spartacus: War of the Damned," and the second season of "Magic City."

Sidebar: Aw man! I am still on the first season of Boss via Netflix and glued to every episode.  I heard this season was great too. I hate such a great show is being cancelled!

BBW Miami Cast Demand More Cash

According to TMZ, several of the Basketball Wives Miami cast are holding out for more money and may walk from the show if their demands for raises aren’t met.  TMZ says they were told filming began last week for the 5th season, but Shaunie O'Neal, Evelyn Lozada, Tami Roman and Suzie Ketcham do NOT have locked contracts.  Their sources say the “Wives” are in the process of renegotiating their contracts and they all want major pay raises, claiming the show does quite well for the network.  TMZ sources also say VH1 is refusing to agree to the raises. The celebrity news and gossip site says that before filming started, show execs reportedly made it clear that salary increases would not happen and any cast member who had a problem with that could be replaced.

Sidebar: I know VH-1 is making more money then these cast members but I think the cast is ridiculous. Take the money and make it work for you in other ways. I  mean really people it's not like this empowerment TV or anything. BBW are not feeding the hungry so give me a break. They are throwing glasses of alcohol in each other faces and bullying each other in a mean girl high school kind of fashion.  They should be happy that they are even given a platform for all for the BS on their show. I'm with VH-1, Kick rocks or better yet do something that's actually worth demanding cash for.

Maia Campbell on Iyanla's Fix My Life [Full Episode]

Iyanla Vanzant is the best thing that ever happened to The Oprah Winfrey Network besides Oprah herself that is.  Her show 'Fix My Life' is life changing empowerment TV.  The episode featuring actress Maia Campbell is by far my favorite episode.  If you missed it this past Saturday you can see the full episode above.  Even though it is painful to watch someone deal with their pain please don't look away.  The lessons you will gain from watching this show is priceless. Bravo Oprah! Your hard conversation with Iyanla has led to a healing between you two that has extended to heal and help all of us who watch OWN. Who knew one conversation could lead to all this?! Ya'll are birthing that baby! So proud of the work you ladies are doing.  This is not an easy feat to pull off through television, which is why I really commend you both.

Meagan Good to Star in new NBC Murder Mystery Series 'Infamous'

According to NBC the Infamous series begins when wealthy socialite and notorious party girl Vivian Bowers is found dead of an overdose, no one is really surprised. The heiress to the Bowers' pharmaceutical empire has been tabloid fodder for years: wild, pretty, privileged... and now dead at the age of 32.  But for FBI agent Will Moreno, things don't add up with this suspicious dynasty. Convinced that the troubled girl's death was a homicide, he has a clever plan to get to the truth. Her name is Detective Joanna Locasto. Twenty years ago she was Vivian's best friend and practically grew up inside the Bowers' home. And when she appears at Vivian's funeral, the family re-embraces her and no one is the wiser. Joanna quickly begins to uncover dark secrets and clues about why Vivian's life was very much in danger. At the same time, she rekindles an old romantic relationship and rediscovers the allure of the luxurious lifestyle she once knew. She's about to see once again just how the other half lives... and dies.

Meagan Good will star in this new murder series and according to Indie wire the series is described as an "opulent soap" where Meagan Good plays detective Joanna Locasto, a female detective who returns to the wealthy family she grew up in - as the maid's daighter - to solve the murder of the notorious heiress who was her closest friend - celebutante Vivian Lawson.  Previously titled Notorious, NBC ordered the series and renamed it infamous, with Laz Alonso, Victor Garber, Tate Donovan, and Katherine LaNasa co-starring. Laz Alonso is slated to play NYPD detective Will Sacovitch, who recruits Good's character, his former flame, to team up and infiltrate the Lawson home - led by Victor Garber as Robert Lawson, and Tate Donovan as his son.

Sidebar: So happy for another series starring a black woman. It's 2012 so we definitely should have more. I hope this show is successful so that it will inspire other networks to make more women the star of the show.  Good luck Meagan!

'Breaking Dawn Part 2' Takes in 341 Million Opening Weekend

According to Huffington Post "Breaking Dawn Part 2," the last film in the "Twilight" series, absolutely dominating the global box office, taking in an astounding $340.9 million in its first weekend.  That's a sum which is sure to please "Breaking Dawn" distributor Summit Entertainment and its parent company, Lionsgate. The fourth and final "Twilight" film earned $141.3 million at the domestic box office and dialed up $199.6 million in international grosses. As the studio noted in its estimate, that's the second-highest domestic weekend opening for a "Twilight" film, just shy of the $142.8 million that "New Moon" brought in over the same time period in 2009. The franchise as a whole has now claimed three of the top 10 openings of all time, with "Breaking Dawn Part 2" coming in at No. 8.  Lionsgate was also quick to point out that it became the first studio to release two movies that opened to over $125 million in the same year. In March, Liongsate released "The Hunger Games" and watched its domestic total top $152 million on opening weekend.  But "Breaking Dawn" was hardly the only film to entice moviegoers this weekend. "Skyfall," the latest of Daniel Craig's Bond movies, set a record for that franchise, raking in $669.2 million since its global debut. Now in its second week in the States, director Sam Mendes' brooding take on 007 has passed $161.3 million at the domestic box office.  Bond's take pushed Sony to its best year ever, surpassing $4 billion in global ticket sales.  Elsewhere, Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" continued to charm audiences, earning $21 million in its first week of wide release at the domestic box office. The Oscar contender, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, brought in an average of $11,831 per theater.

Toni Braxton Talk Show

According to The Huffington Post Toni Braxton and her family have already proved they can bring in the monster ratings with "Braxton Family Values," their hit reality show for WE-TV. Now the Braxtons are turning their eyes toward syndication with their own daytime talk show. Watch out, Katie Couric!

"Toni, Traci, Towanda and Trina are all in LA right now, pitching a talk show," one Los Angeles TV executive tells me. "Think 'The View' but with a lot of sass! There will be the Braxton sisters' version of 'Hot Topics,' called 'Spill the T,' plus gossip, relationships, fashion, makeover segments and celebrity guests. They have even gotten their mom to do an 'Ask Mommy' advice segment. A fun, fun show."

The Braxtons would have a lot of competition. Several new talk shows are set to debut, with hosts including Queen Latifah, former "Real Housewives" cast member Bethenny Frankel, chefs Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis, and even Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner.

"Toni is totally into it, as is the rest of the family," one family friend tells me. "They have somehow managed to secure Rob Dauber, a veteran of 'The Rosie Show,' 'Oprah' and 'The Wendy Williams Show,' to be executive producer and make make them the next daytime hit. Plus, you know they are going to have one hell of a theme song.

Sidebar: That Talk Show circuit is getting crowded. I think it could work, but for how long? Talk shows are a lot harder than people think. It's why only the best are left standing. I don't believe people give enough credit to those that are successful in that genre. They make it look real easy, but it aint.

Flipping Out star Jeff Lewis Files Lawsuit Against Assistant

According to ET Flipping Out star Jeff Lewis has filed a lawsuit against his longtime assistant Jenni Pulos, alleging that she is in violation of confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements because of information that might be disclosed in a book she is writing.  In the court complaint filed Wednesday and obtained by ET, Lewis states that he became aware last month that Jenni was writing a book that she purported would be about her personal life.  But the complaint alleges that the title of the book made it appear that it was not entirely based "on her personal life as represented - but on her experiences while working for plaintiffs and specifically her experiences as the personal assistant of Jeff for these past 10+ years." Lewis states in the lawsuit that confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements signed by Pulos prevent her from divulging private information about him and his business.

Sidebar: I hope Jenni takes this as a cue to exit stage left. He is horrible on that show. Just because you are talented (and he is) does not justify being an asshole.   You only have to watch this show once to find out Jeff is an ass.  He does great work but the cost of dealing with him seems way to high. Jenni seemed to be his only real friend and he treats her the worse. I hope she wins, writes the book, and goes on to leave him in the dust as a friend. Think I'm being harsh? Watch the show and see how he treats people he supposedly cares about.

Lark Vooheries Interview on Entertainment Tonight

According to The Hip Hop Socialite Teen star Lark Voorhies is fighting talk that she has bi-polar disorder. The rumors stem from her recent odd behavior in interviews, and her mother’s revelation last month that the 38-year-old had been diagnosed with the mental disorder, which causes shifts in a person’s mood, energy, and ability to function.  In an effort to permanently quash the rumors, Lark sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight, and ended up doing herself more harm than good.

Sidebar: I felt very sad after watching this interview.  I pray she gets the help she needs, because it is obvious something is wrong.

Remembering Whitney Houston 9 months later...

Today it's been 9 months since Whitney passed and I still find it very hard to believe she is not here. Fellow Whitney fran, Linda Sparks, sent me this video of Whitney talking on Australian radio.  It's so comforting to hear Whitney talk and laugh in her own words.  I pray for all of us that are still grieving the loss of such a global icon, and a wonderful person, especially the Houston family.  Cherish everyone in your life, because no one knows the day or the hour we will depart or someone we love will depart.  I will always love you Whitney! You are gone, but never forgotten.

Chris Brown & Rihanna Claim They Are Not Dating

According to Extra.com although they are collaborating in their music, Chris Brown and Rihanna both insist they are not romantically involved.  Brown continued, "As far as our personal life, I think people just got to give it a chance -- or not even give it a chance, shut the hell up is basically what it is," he said. "I'm not trying to rush into anything, put any rings on anybody's finger or lie to anybody. I just rather be completely honest, express my feelings."  Meanwhile, Rihanna, whose “Unapologetic” album is being released November 19, talked with Bravo host Andy Cohen on “Facebook Live” and she basically said the same thing. "No," said Brown when L.A. Power 106 radio host Big Boy asked him if he was dating RiRi on Friday.

NeNe Leakes’ EBONY Power 100 cover sparks online debate

According to TheGrio.com Nene Leakes covers the recent Power 100 issue of Ebony magazine. The photograph features a smiling Leakes raising a glass of champagne, while sitting pretty in a bathtub filled with diamonds.  Known for her infamous, simply stated mantra, “I’m very rich,” the Real Housewives of Atlanta star made her way up the Hollywood hierarchy, landing a guest spot on the hit series Glee before making it big on the new NBC comedy The New Normal. She plays the mouthy secretary Rocky, a character crafted specifically for her by the show’s creator Ryan Murphy.  "I’ve always liked acting — I did it years ago, this isn’t my first time doing it… I love becoming a character outside of who I am,” Leakes said in an interview last month. “Even when I was a little girl, I loved make believe, so I like it.”  While Leakes has certainly extended the typical fifteen minutes of fame allotted to reality stars and become a prosperous household name, the flamboyant nature of her Ebony cover has lead the blogosphere to question her sense of taste. “It’s the money and power issue, but the message doesn’t quite get conveyed that way,” writes Brittney M. Walker at EURWeb. “It looks sort of cheap and gimmicky.”  The online magazine Clutch also addressed the cover, focusing less on the photograph and more on the statement that Ebony has made by selecting the controversial reality star for the honor. “Ebony boasts that it is ‘more than a magazine, it’s a movement,’ but does allowing Nene Leakes—one of reality TV’s biggest bullies—[to be on its cover] fall in line with that mission?” Clutch asked readers.  Leakes has yet to respond to the naysayers. Meanwhile, the public will continue to hash it out online.  The issue spotlights a bevy of black celebrities, athletes and influential professionals alongside Leakes, including Tyler Perry, Shonda Rhimes, Gabrielle Douglas, Cathy Hughes, Rihanna, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Cee Lo Green and Cam Newton. The Ebony Power 100 Gala will also be held for the first time to celebrate those honored on the list at Lincoln Center in New York City this evening. “In this issue, Ebony selects the 100 primary influencers and game changers who have made vital accomplishments during the past year,” said the magazine’s editors of the issue and event.

Sidebar: I first saw this story watching Wendy Williams this morning and I have no problem with this cover whatsoever.  There should not be any controversy.  It's show business folks and Ebony has to sell magazines.  Plus success has many faces and yes Nene Leakes happens to be one of them.

Lakers Fire Mike Brown as Coach

According to The Los Angeles Times The Lakers have fired Mike Brown as coach after the team's 1-4 start, according to a person familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak publicly about it.  The team makes a change after a disappointing 1-4 start to a season in which they were supposed to be title contenders after acquiring All-Star guard Steve Nash and center Dwight Howard.  Brown was barely a month into his second season with the team, which struggled badly amid high expectations.  It was unclear who would be his replacement.  It was believed to be the earliest firing of a coach in the team's history. Del Harris was relieved of his duties 12 games into the 1999 season.  The Lakers were 41-25 in Brown's first season, losing to Oklahoma City in the second round of the playoffs.  The team has had trouble picking up Brown's Princeton-based offense and has also lagged defensively.  The Lakers are set play Golden State tonight at Staples Center.

Sidebar: Someone on twitter said that Big Ang's show on VH-1 lasted longer that Mike Brown's employment with the Lakers. Lol! Is this the shortest coaching stint ever?
