Last Friday, March 23, 2011, I went to see the amazing Rachelle Ferrell sing live at the Catalina Jazz club in LA. It was my first time experiencing her talent in person. I was blown away. She was beyond anything I ever witnessed. Even video does not do her justice. You must see her live.  I want to share some of the amazing sounds I heard that night.  Scroll down and delight in the wonderful sounds of the genius talent of Rachelle Ferrell. It will take you to a place where I was that night - heaven!

The Amazing Rachelle Ferrell at Catalina Jazz Club

Rachelle Ferrell gave an outstanding performance

Sheila E. joined Rachelle on stage

What an amazing show Rachelle Ferrell gave last Friday night at the Catalina jazz Club. I was blown away by her pristine vocals. Every song touched every single person in the room. She is a gift from God. I felt honored and privileged to be in the room. You know it's going to be a great evening when the people from the first show come out while you're standing in line, and rave to you, "You guys are in for a treat." That was the understatement of the year!  Sheila E. who is around great music all the time could not even contain herself. First she was sitting at the bar, next thing you know she was on stage grooving and making sounds with a Heineken bottle. Yes, a beer bottle! They end up doing a duet with sounds from a bottle and Rachelle's fantastic instrument - her voice. If you ever hear that Rachelle Ferrell is performing anywhere near you, do yourself a favor, and go see her live. It is truly a bucket list item.

Miki Howard - Part 1

This was my second time sitting down with the legendary Miki Howard for a Studio Q interview.  She was just as forthcoming in this interview as she was in the first. She keeps it real and holds nothing back.  She is an interviewer's dream. In Part 1, we find out how Miki felt about receiving a Lifetime Achievement award, presented to her this past January at the Chicago Music Awards. We also chatted about a tribute concert she participated in for the Late Great Vesta Williams. Get caught up with all things Miki Howard!

Miki Howard - Part 2

In Part 2, Miki gives us a chilling detail of how she discovered her friend Whitney Houston had died.  At first Miki did not want to talk about Whitney, but she then went on to share her feelings.  I loved what she had to say about Whitney. It is an honest perspective, not yet heard in the media. She also talks about Bobbi Kristina.  Unfortunately, Miki knows all to well what it is like to lose a mother too soon.  I wanted Miki to recount some Whitney memories, but I was so grateful about what she already shared that I  didn't push for more. Maybe next time. People's stories help you to feel even more connected to the one they are talking about. In this case, it was Whitney Houston.

Miki Howard Interview - Part 3

The final part of this interview is my favorite, because of the Studio Q Lightning Round.  What is a lightning round you may ask? It is a series of questions where you do not think, you just answer from your gut or the top of your head.  It is spontaneous. Miki's answers are great. They immediately show how much she is to be around. I love me some Miki Howard and if you watch my interview with her you will see why. She is one of a kind.
